With 26 lakh persons transported over 27 lakhs kms. Every day by GSRTC across the State of Gujarat it serves the role of the life line across the state of Gujarat. “ST” has become a household term for transportation. Over past 40 years of its existence, it has proved to be a dependable mode of transportation in every nook and corner of the State. It is also providing transportation services in most of the urban areas of the State. In terms of managerial efficiency, it has acquitted itself reasonably well over past 40 years and has grown into a huge umbrella organization consisting of 16 divisions , 140 depots and a central workshop considered to be the largest of its kind in this continent. It provides direct employment to approximately 60,000 people whose professional skills are kept in high regard even by people outside GSRTC. In the open market economy, however, the expectations of people with respect to frequency, quality and range of services has become substantially higher. A time has come when we have to take a serious look at the transportation needs of the people and explore the ways to fulfill the same by whatever means public or private. GSRTC has been trying hard to face the new challenges by improving its management practices. The launching of website is one such step taken in the direction of greater transparency and increasing interaction with users and the rest of the world. I wish this endeavour great success.
